The majority of people believe hypnosis is a last resort tool for smoking cessation, weight loss or changing habits. Few people know hypnosis is a dynamic and vital healing process embracing all aspects of mental health care. Hypnosis is client-centered with its focus on the discovery of the origin of a person’s issues. Through the process of hypnosis/regression the unconscious mind goes to the original cause, which then gives the person and practitioner the opportunity to process the original feelings surrounding the original experience/cause. These surrounding feelings can be healed, thus empowering the person to live the life they want to live.
The study in American Health Magazine (2007) clearly states that hypnosis is both more effective and works more quickly than traditional talk-therapy or psychoanalysis. In a hypnotic state, one is more receptive to new ideas and can more effectively process the emotions linked to the experiences which created pain, fear, sadness, anger, guilt, shame, humiliation and low self-esteem.
Hypnosis is a special form of communication to the subconscious mind where habits are established and memory is stored. Because the language of the subconscious mind is visual, the more detailed your image is of your goal, the faster your subconscious mind will create the changes you desire. Once your subconscious accepts a new idea, you automatically accept it at a conscious level.
Hypnosis allows you to access your subconscious mind, the part of your brain that stores up to 90% of your memories.Driving a route you are familiar with and not being conscious of every turn you make is similar to the hypnotic state. With hypnosis, you reprogram and release thought patterns and habits to make desirable, lasting changes in your life.
You are in control: Hypnosis is extremely relaxing, similar to a deep meditative state, and you are completely aware during the entire experience. It is a myth that a hypnotist has any control over you. The client is completely conscious and aware of the entire process and can stop the process at anytime if desired. The client is NOT asleep, but instead highly focused on the goals the client wishes to achieve. The hypnotherapist helps you connect with your subconscious mind, which puts YOU in control of your subconscious mind—the most powerful and empowering aspect of your brain. Hypnosis restores your freedom of choice, which you haven't had in many years!
MISSION: To promote excellence and progress in hypnosis research, education, and clinical practice.
Founded in 1949, the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (SCEH) is an international organization of psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, dentists and physicians who are dedicated to the highest level of scientific inquiry and the conscientious application of hypnosis in the clinical setting.
The membership represents a rare union of some of the finest academicians, researchers and clinicians whose collaboration is designed to support and inform the clinical work and research of its members and other professionals.
A distinguishing feature of the group is its premise that sound clinical practice is built upon serious scientific inquiry and that important empirical questions are often raised by those who care for patients.
Through workshops, lectures, publication of the International Journal for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (IJCEH), and other teaching activities of SCEH, members educate health care professionals, academicians, researchers, students and the general public about the nature and ethical uses of hypnosis and related phenomena.
